Why Design?
creativity + identity
“How does what you make reflect who you are?”
That was the question posed in a recent call for entry in Uppercase, one of my favorite art
magazines. The feature highlights work from all over the world: letterpress, illustration,
ceramics, sewing, and so on. The article introduces several individuals, each thoughtfully
expressing how what he or she creates is a direct reflection on who they are. It was helpful
for me to put into words, and consider why I choose to design, how it defines my identity,
and what I hope to give and take from each project experience.
